New Crosswalk Lights

We are pleased to share that a new crosswalk warning system and updated signage have been installed in front of the middle school along Indiana State Highway 2 (Main Street) to enhance safety for our students.

How the New System Works

• Flashing Amber Lights: Pressing the large button on the post activates amber warning lights to alert approaching motorists that pedestrians are waiting to cross.
• Warning Only: This system serves as a visual warning to drivers; it does not legally require motorists to stop.
• Crossing Guard Schedule: This technology supports—but does not replace—our dedicated crossing guard. The crossing guard will continue to assist students each school day from 7:20 AM – 8:20 AM and 2:20 PM – 3:20 PM. We strongly encourage students to cross during these supervised hours whenever possible.

Please take a moment to review the following steps with your child:

1. Push the Button: Always press the button on the post to activate the warning lights before crossing.
2. Make Eye Contact: Look directly at approaching drivers to ensure they see you.
3. Verify Both Lanes are Clear: Even with the lights flashing, students must wait until vehicles in both directions have come to a complete stop—or until no traffic is approaching—before stepping onto the roadway.
